Story by Aashna Patel of Grade 3 for Think n Ink Contest

In the 18th century BC there lived a very kind king, Jaivardhan and his queen Raghini. They had a son named Veer which suited his personality as he was very brave and courageous. He was 18 and was learning sword fighting and archery.

One day Jaivardhan was killed by Khasim and Ali of Pakistan. Very soon Veer became king and planned to kill Khasim and Ali and destroy the kingdom of Pakistan. Being an Indian queen, Raghini agreed and brought 8 soldiers-the Pawns, 2 white horses-the Knights, 2 priests-the Bishops and built 2 castles in the battlefield known as Rooks. Veer and Raghini wore white becoming the White Team. India attacked Pakistan at midnight.

A Pakistani soldier-the Pawn took 2 steps forward with the white soldier doing the same. Then both fought for a while till the White Knight moved and killed the Black Pawn. Soon Raghini moved and killed a Black Bishop and on and on it went. The battlefield was soon cleared leaving the kings and the queens to fight. The kings just couldn’t fight and the queens soon got tired of it. With all four laughing, the 2 kingdoms decided to join and the war was declared a draw!

This my friends, according to me was when the game of chess was invented imitating the Great War!
