Biology / Plant Physiology - Photosynthesis

Biology / Plant Physiology - Photosynthesis

  • Transportation in Plants: Transportation of water and food take place by xylem(water) and phloem(food) through diffusion and osmosis.
  • Absorption by roots : Roots play an important role in absorption of water and minerals from the soil, which is conducted to all parts of the plant body through xylem.
  • Learn about the processes and their significance involved in absorption and conduction of water like
          1) imbibition,
          2) diffusion,
          3) osmosis,
          4) plasmolysis and
          5) turgidity.
  • Transpiration: Loss of water, in the form of water vapour is called transpiration.
         --Learn different experiments showing transpiration in plants.
         --Transpiration can be measured by weighing methods and Ganong's photometer. The types of transpiration are : Stomatal (through leaves) , lenticular (through roots) and cuticular (through cuticle).
  • Photosynthesis: This module focuses on mechanism of photosynthesis.
    Processes of photosynthesis-;
          1)Light reaction: It takes place only in presence of light and occurs in grana region of plastids.
          2)Dark reaction - It is independent of light and occurs in stroma region of plastids. Also learn about the factors affecting photosynthesis.
