Health is wealth. In order to ensure smooth functioning of our body, we must understand health and disease.
Basic conditions to maintain good health are balanced diet, personal hygiene, exercise and relaxation, no addictions, clean environment.
Disease is disorder of the body. Disease causing organisms are called pathogens (e.g. bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoans). Diseases are of two types as congenital(inborn)and acquired (after birth). Acquired may be of communicable(infectious) or non-communicable(non-infectious) type.
Diseases caused by pathogens:
• Bacterial Diseases - examples: tuberculosis, cholera, tetanus.
• Viral diseases - examples: poliomyelitis, mums, rabies, HIV and AIDS.
Diseases caused by Parasites: examples ascariasis (caused by round worm), taeniasis( caused by tape worm). Learn about the causes, symptoms and preventive measures for these diseases.
Cleanliness is next to godliness. Learn about the hygiene-personal and social .
You know that some agents spread diseases from person to person. They are nothing but vectors ex. mosquito, housefly, rats etc.
Water also brings about diseases (water borne )due to contamination and pollution.
